All of the signs are that we are in for a BIG weekend of snow!!! So much negative publicity this week, and yet it can change within a day or so and the publicity becomes yesterday’s news!!
According to Jet2Ski’s weather update today –
A significant snow-bearing weather system (yeah, ok, a snowstorm) will push into The Alps from the North, starting later today (Thursday). The North and East (including Austria, most of Switzerland and the Northern French Alps) will see the snow fall heaviest and for longest, with light falls today and moderate further falls into the weekend.
In all areas, we currently expect the main event to be Friday. Accumulations of 20cm+ will be widespread across much of the Alpine area, with as much as 50cm over 3 or 4 days locally.
Once the snow passes (at the weekend), temperatures will drop significantly and the next week is going to be very cold in The Alps – so the fresh snow is going to stay in great form if you’re lucky enough to be out there!
I use a very good weather site that pulls many forecasts together and there is a huge spike for tomorrow and Saturday, measuring at least 4 times the size of the spike earlier this week! It then shows another fall in temperatures! see below:
The headlines could not be more sensational today in the Daily Mail, Telegraph and Times, putting the fear of a ruined holiday into the minds of those booked for January, or even those considering booking this year’s trip.
Well, what a load of tosh!
Firstly, I starting skiing this season on the 17th December and I have just skied 18 miles today over a 4 hour period. Most skiers do this in a day so it shows how much terrain can be covered. To be precise Chatel Pre-La-Joux, Les Crosets, over the ‘wall’, down to and around Avoriaz, Lindarets and back down to the car park!
Secondly, these headlines take no account of the snow that fell over the weekend or the metre of new snow that is coming tomorrow, Wednesday, Thurdsay, Friday, Saturday and Sunday plus through into next week!
Below are my photos from today. You can see the quality of the snow on piste and my video, although shakey, shows the quality real time! drop us a line for January skiing – just £499pp per week in January. email@example.com
