Chalet Le Dragon – Easter Review 2017

We work hard to ensure that your ski trip with us at Chalet Le Dragon is always one to remember.

Every ski season we welcome 130+ guests to our chalet in the Portes du Soleil and try to achieve the same standards week in week out for our guests. When we get a review such as the one below we feel that it is job well done and are proud to share it far and wide!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Chalet Le Dragon with friends and wish we were still there! What an amazing place. We have skied as a family in various countries over the years in different hotels, apartments etc and can honestly say this is the best we have stayed in. Matt and Emma make a ski holiday so much easier….from dropping us off to the slopes in the morning and picking us up, to transfers to and from the airport, and advice on the best slopes. Even the ski hire company came to the chalet to kit us out! The evening meals were great and the daily homemade cakes after a day on the slopes, followed by relaxing dips in the hot tub was pure bliss.

The Chalet itself is wonderful. Plenty of room for us all, very comfortable beds and homely surroundings and great views from the balconies. Emily, who helped prepare meals, cleaning etc was also a wonderful host and really looked after us and she made amazing pre dinner cocktails each evening!

The chalet location is perfect. We have been to the Portes du Soleil ski area 3 times now, and still love it, as it is so vast with enough slopes for all ski abilities. Even in April, there was enough snow and even better we could sunbathe on lunch stops! We were only a short walk into the village and Matt and Emma advised us and even booked us in to two fab restaurants.

All in all a fab holiday and we will be back!

End of Ski Season 2016-17

It’s been a great 4 months of skiing here at Chalet Le Dragon. We have met lots of great new clients and welcomed back many repeat clients this season. A huge thank you to all who stayed with us this ski season.

We will now be putting our feet up for a week or so, before opening our doors again for the summer season at the end of May on a B&B basis. If you fancy a summer trip just drop us an email.

Here are some of our latest reviews from our clients staying in April…

A fab weeks holiday at Chalet Le Dragon!
This was our first ski trip as a family and everything was made incredibly easy with the help of Matt and Emma who were brilliant hosts. They organised our transfers, our ski hire and equipment and also private lessons with Blue Chilli. Also excellent instructors. The Chalet was homely and clean, and the rooms and views were lovely. The afternoon drink in the hot tub was much needed after a tough day on the slopes. Matt was there to take us to the slopes first thing and a welcome sight to pick us up when we’d done for the day. There was a large breakfast in the morning, gorgeous tea and cakes on our return and always a fab 4 course meal in the evening! Chalet girl Emily was lovely to have around and she did some mean cocktails. A couple of nights out at local restaurants were a nice change. La Fer food being excellent… They do a fab Raclette!! There was a real homely feel to the weeks stay and i think it’s going to be really tough for us to do any other setup for this kind of holiday! I’d thoroughly recommend it! All in all, this was the perfect start to our family ski trips! Just fab!!

Spring ski trip
Had a fabulous week at le dragon. Little apprehensive at the lack of snow on ground however Matt advised exactly where we needed to go / park for excellent skiing and provided transport whenever needed.
The chalet was really spacious and beautifully clean. Food was fab. Hot tub a bonus!
Matt and Emma were brilliant hosts and made the week so easy and enjoyable….. we could have stayed for another one!!!!

Want to come every year!
Had the best trips to chalet le dragon! I love coming to the chalet for the views, the food, the skiing and Emma and Matt make the stay wonderful! I wish I could stay year round and will definitely be back!

Home from home in the snow
A big thank you to Matt, Emma and Emily for looking after the 10 of us again. If you want a warm welcome, relaxed atmosphere and cracking good and hospitality then look no further than Chalet Le Dragon. Matt was again very accommodating with the various pick up and drop off locations for our group with mixed abilities and needs. If you are looking for a great holiday then get booking!

Chalet Le Dragon Reviews 20th March 2017

Reviews – w/c 20th March 2017

Another great ski holiday at Chalet le Dragon!!

We returned to the chalet for the 2nd year running as we were so impressed the first time round. Matt and Emma are both very welcoming and make you feel instantly at home.

The chalet is spotlessly clean and has all the amenities needed for snowy evening in, a TV with lots of channels, books, magazines and games. The beds are really comfy and the showers were always hot and powerful even with 10 of us staying.

The hot tub was a big hit – sipping drinks whilst taking in the mountain view was ideal after a day on the slopes.

Now onto the food – you will not go hungry!! Every meal was enormous and delicious.

There is plenty of skiing in the area but it is quite spread around. Luckily Matt is on hand to do the pick ups and drop offs and can offer advice as to the best places to ski for your ability.
All in all, a great place to stay whether you are skiing or not.

Fabulous week at Chalet le Dragon

As a group of 10 we had a wonderful week staying with Matt and Emma. The Chalet is lovely and everything you could want for mountain coziness. They have thought of everything to make it an easy and relaxed holiday. The food was incredible and having the hot tub with an amazing view after a day on the piste was very luxurious. Thank you!!

It Just Gets Better – Reviews March 2017

Great Reviews Again for Chalet Le Dragon – w/c 12th March 2017

Thank you to our great guests over the last few weeks!! We loved having you to stay and are thrilled that you enjoyed your ski holiday.

A very comfortable stay

This was by far the loveliest chalet we have stayed in for a skiing week. It is well furnished, the beds especially are very comfy and the food is of great quality. The hosts are helpful and friendly without being intrusive. The location is convenient and views are fantastic.

top chalet

Matt and Emma run a super chalet, comfortable large living room, netflix for the kids, decent wifi, great views out, and fab evening meals. And limitless wine and beer ! They take care of the transport, ski hire, and good boot room. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever had, and huge.

Ski trip with the LOSS crew

What a place and what hospitality, Matt, Emma and Emily make you feel right at home from the moment you get there. A lovely bottle of bubbles waiting for us on arrival and a quick tour of the place to get your bearings. Rooms are lovely, food is lovely especially the home cooked cakes. Hot and cold running water, what more can you ask for. Matt looked after all our needs with relation to the ski’ing, explaining the best places to go and dropping us off and picking us up each day. Hot tub was awesome and patched up the weary legs after a hard day on the slopes. I can highly recommend you stay at the Dragon. I felt like part of the family when I left. Good times. I can feel a return visit coming on.

Great Reviews Again for Chalet Le Dragon

Great Reviews Again for Chalet Le Dragon – w/c 26th Feb 2017

Thank you to our great guests over the last 7 days!! We loved having you to stay and are thrilled that you enjoyed your ski holiday. Thanks for teaching us a new drinking game also!!

We stayed at Chalet Le Dragon for a week at the end of Feb. It was fantastic to have such an amazing Chalet to come back to after a day on the piste. Matt, Emma and Emily were great hosts and have made the Chalet extremely comfortable and homely. We are like kings every night, consuming our body weight in cheese and wine… I like to believe the skiing burned off the calories (but I suspect that isn’t the case). Thanks to the Chalet Le Dragon team for an awesome stay, well done!

Fantastic week at Chalet Le Dragon. The chalet is lovely and very comfortable; plenty of room for everyone and very well furnished with games, books, Netflix, hot tub etc. Food great, especially the cakes and desserts, and lots of it! Would definitely recommend.

“Falling in love with skiing again” – stayed half-term 2017
We cannot thank Matt, Emma and Emily enough for a fantastic holiday. The chalet was perfect, homely and welcoming. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed. The ski hire was the easiest we have ever had in many years of skiing. Matt’s daily drop off and pick up at the slopes was a godsend! Coming back to the chalet for tea and delicious cake was a real treat at the end of the day as we’re the delicious dinners that were prepared for us. We have fallen in love with skiing again and hope to return to Chalet le Dragon again.

“Absolutely Amazing” – stayed New Year 2016/17
Words can’t express how much we enjoyed our New Year break at the best catered chalet that we have stayed in Matt, Emma & Emily went out of their way to make us feel at home in what is a superb luxury property Excellent service, excellent food & excellent chalet Thanks for an amazing break.

“Great Holiday” – stayed December 2016
I’ve been going on ski chalet holidays since the mid 90s, and I can honestly say this was the best chalet I have stayed at. Accommodation : Spacious rooms , lots of storage space for all your gear, modern bathrooms with multijet power showers , abundant squashy sofas to snuggle up on at the end of the day; and a lovely jacuzzi to massage your aching limbs . Ran by owners Matt and Emma, you can see the extra thought that has been put into making this chalet a home from home – little touches like the multi socket British extension leads , hairdryers , large quantities of toiletries in every bedroom. Food and drink – I usually have to pay for my soft drinks / beer in chalets, while everyone else drinks the free wine ( I don’t drink wine as I suffer badly from wine flu ) – but not here – it’s all included . Great for the kids too, they loved the unlimited included soft drinks. Emma’s cakes and desserts were amazing , and Matt is a great cook. Emily looked after us well in the mornings , being very flexible with breakfast times etc., and was generally very pleasant , helpful and happy throughout our stay . Matt also arranged our private transfers , ski hire ( it came to us – no nightmares in the ski hire shop this year ) and private snowboarding lessons for our kids with Martin at Torr , who was also brilliant . The only downside is that any future chalet holiday is going to seem a bit poor in comparison . I’m booking in for next year as soon as hubby tells me when he has got annual leave . Brilliant place , we loved it , wish I had found it years ago.

Big Snow Forecast

All of the signs are that we are in for a BIG weekend of snow!!! So much negative publicity this week, and yet it can change within a day or so and the publicity becomes yesterday’s news!!

According to Jet2Ski’s weather update today –

A significant snow-bearing weather system (yeah, ok, a snowstorm) will push into The Alps from the North, starting later today (Thursday). The North and East (including Austria, most of Switzerland and the Northern French Alps) will see the snow fall heaviest and for longest, with light falls today and moderate further falls into the weekend.

In all areas, we currently expect the main event to be Friday. Accumulations of 20cm+ will be widespread across much of the Alpine area, with as much as 50cm over 3 or 4 days locally.

Once the snow passes (at the weekend), temperatures will drop significantly and the next week is going to be very cold in The Alps – so the fresh snow is going to stay in great form if you’re lucky enough to be out there!

I use a very good weather site that pulls many forecasts together and there is a huge spike for tomorrow and Saturday, measuring at least 4 times the size of the spike earlier this week! It then shows another fall in temperatures! see below:

It’s not too late to book with us to enjoy the fresh powder and quiet slopes. We are offering all weeks in January at just £499pp fully catered, including beer/wine, plus transfers are at a significantly reduced price of £29.00 return per person. Email us now to discuss

Is there really no snow in the alps part 2

So another series of articles hit the newsstand yesterday about the poor snow in the alps including Bloomberg and the Washington Post!! … and yet again I would challenge the articles as we have been out skiing around Chatel and Avoriaz without issue. Agreed, the full area isn’t quite open but more opened today including some of Super Chatel, Lac de Vonne links and Cret Beni in La Chapelle.

Trust us, we live here all year round and can say honestly that the pistes are lovely, the weather gloriously sunny and the forecast snowy conditions are very exciting for the coming days.

Here are some more skiing photos from today…

Is there really no snow in the alps?

The headlines could not be more sensational today in the Daily Mail, Telegraph and Times, putting the fear of a ruined holiday into the minds of those booked for January, or even those considering booking this year’s trip.

Well, what a load of tosh!

Firstly, I starting skiing this season on the 17th December and I have just skied 18 miles today over a 4 hour period. Most skiers do this in a day so it shows how much terrain can be covered. To be precise Chatel Pre-La-Joux, Les Crosets, over the ‘wall’, down to and around Avoriaz, Lindarets and back down to the car park!

Secondly, these headlines take no account of the snow that fell over the weekend or the metre of new snow that is coming tomorrow, Wednesday, Thurdsay, Friday, Saturday and Sunday plus through into next week!

Below are my photos from today. You can see the quality of the snow on piste and my video, although shakey, shows the quality real time! drop us a line for January skiing – just £499pp per week in January.
